Located on the scenic Washington Coast, the City of Ocean Shores is known for its stunning natural scenery and outdoor recreational opportunities. Developed in the 1960's, Ocean Shores has become one of the state's most popular retirement and resort destinations. The community is home to nearly 6,000 full time residents and experiences roughly 5 million visitors annually. Ocean Shores offers six miles of sandy beaches and recreational opportunities include world-class bird watching, year-round freshwater, saltwater and surf fishing, whale watching, camping, and horseback riding on the beach. The city also offers an eighteen-hole championship golf course and many intriguing shops and restaurants.

The City of Ocean Shores' Public Works Department provides services including Parks, Litter Control, Engineering Services, Streets, Water, Sewer, and Stormwater, operates with an overall budget of $19.1 million per year and is staffed with 36.32 FTEs. Engineering services include capital improvement projects, infrastructure maintenance, all mapping services and GIS projects.

Under the general direction of the Public Works Director, the City Engineer is responsible for all professional and technical municipal engineering related activities, and for the design, preparation of plans and specifications, and construction of capital improvement projects. The City Engineer also ensures compliance with city codes, ordinances, and engineering practices and standards, administers consultant contracts, coordinates policy issues through the director and supervises assigned personnel.

A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, and 6 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal engineering, including significant demonstrated experience in infrastructure planning, funding, design, and construction is required. The selected candidate must have or obtain a license to practice as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington, and a Washington State Driver License with a driving record acceptable to the city's insurance carrier.
