Salary: $107,506.46 - $179,177.86 Annually
Fairfax County DPWES is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to direct the Wastewater Management and Stormwater Management business areas of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES). Leads a diverse workforce of approximately 550 employees and oversees an annual operating and capital budget of approximately $350 million. Manages the Wastewater Enterprise Fund, the Stormwater Service district tax, the Forest Pest Service district as well as county general fund programs. The Wastewater Management business operates approximately 3400 miles of collection system, a 67 MGD advanced wastewater treatment facility, and is part of five regional wastewater treatment plants operated by independent authorities or other localities. The Stormwater Management business area, which includes Urban Forestry, maintains the county’s MS4 permit which covers Fairfax County Public Schools and the Park Authority (an independent authority). Leads and coordinates thee environmental business areas ensuring the county is in compliance with all regulatory requirements and the community remains resilient. Supports the Fairfax County “One Fairfax” philosophy by creating and sustaining a diverse workforce and providing equitable service to county residents.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, urban and regional planning, business administration, public administration, or a related field; Plus ten years of progressively responsible public works and/or environmental services management experience, four years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
- A minimum of ten years of demonstrated experience leading a talented and diverse workforce, including trades operations, professional, technical, and administrative staff, creating a culture of collaboration.
- A minimum of two years of demonstrated management and leadership experience in a Wastewater and/or Stormwater organization.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, senior leadership, other agencies, and external stakeholders.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies and with regional partners.
- Proven experience working with senior leadership, appointed and elected officials.
- Experience with public works or local government emergency response.
Job is generally sedentary. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and use other automated technology. Must be able to communicate with the public. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
