Description

Responsible for managing the storm water drainage system maintenance and repair functions for the City. The work will include planning pipe and ditch maintenance and video activities for City staff and contract workers, executing the planned work through work orders or other work tracking system, coordinating the various work efforts among City and contractors, providing data collection and GIS management and reporting of the system maintenance. Oversees the planning, execution and reporting of the storm water drain system maintenance and repair functions for all of the systems that the City is responsible to maintain. Manages outside contractors including bidding for required services, contract management, scheduling and inspecting work, processing pay requests and tracking the respective project budget. Manages City/contractor repair projects that are related to the maintenance of the system including, but not limited to, pipe and culvert repair, brick arch repairs, repair of storm water structures and incidental site and roadway repairs. Makes decisions related to maintenance of drainage systems in easements and rights-of- way with other City departments and/or the public. Responsible for meeting with the public and/or city officials to inspect and document drainage issues. Assists with long-term maintenance issues related to drainage systems. Represents the Department Director or Deputy Department Director at meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. Requires: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Civil Engineering or equivalent; and ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience in all aspects of storm water management and hydraulics for drainage design, hydrology or site design and paving, and preferred.  Familiarity with CAD and other civil/site design software packages is desirable. Valid state issue Driver's License. Professional Engineering License in the State of South Carolina. A PE license from another state is acceptable for the purposes of hiring, however the employee must obtain a South Carolina license within six months from the date of hire. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel and Word or similar software.
