At entry level, the Apprentice performs semi-skilled field work requiring the application of acquired skills and knowledge in the installation, field maintenance and repair of stormwater removal and drainage collection systems and related construction procedures.
Salary: $15.91 - $23.94 an hour
Work includes skill in the use of related equipment; knowledge of departmental functions, policies and procedures; operating in confined spaces with limited lighting (drainage pipes); working in drainage ditches in standing water; and maintaining balance on floating platforms in area waterways and retention ponds. Work of this class is characterized by participation in and successful completion of the Apprenticeship Training Program designed to improve the employee's knowledge of stormwater removal and drainage collection system maintenance and construction procedures, and to further develop skills in the use of hand and power tools and other specialized equipment.
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the employee becomes certified at the journeyman pipe layer level and may be eligible for promotion to Technician.
