Scotts Valley Water District is seeking qualified Water Facilities Operator I/II candidates to fill an existing full-time vacancy and to create an eligibility list for future vacancies.
The Water Facilities Operator I/II is an alternately staffed position; Water Facilities Operator I is an entry and training level position that performs specialized work under direct supervision; Water Facilities Operator II is the intermediate level position performing more complex and specialized tasked while exercising broader discretion and independent judgement.

Scotts Valley Water District has established itself as a regional leader in sustainable water management and is the trusted source of high-quality water for our local community. The District serves about 4,000 customers, employees 18 full-time staff. and has an annual operating budget of 5 million dollars.
Knowledge: Basic mechanical and hydraulic principles and equipment and tools used in maintenance and repair. Basic mathematical principles, including fractions, decimals, proportions, measurements, volume and area calculations. Safety aspects and precautions in field maintenance work.
Abilities: Safely perform a variety of field operations and maintenance tasks in water utility. Perform field tests and mathematical calculations. Follow oral and written instructions. Read, interpret, and record data. Learn more complex principles, practices and regulations pertaining to water facilities operations. Effectively communicate with the public and staff.
Education and Experience: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
Experience: One year of work in construction, maintenance or utility.
Education: Completion of high school or its equivalent. Additional related education may be substituted for experience or experience might be substituted for education.
Other: Must reside within a 30-minute response time. Willingness to perform shift work, on-call duty assignment and call-back work.
License or Certification:
Water Facilities Operator 1 - Must obtain a Grade I Water Treatment Operator (T1) and a Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) Certification within 18 months from the date of hire. Must possess a valid California Driver License and have a clean driving record.
Water Facilities Operator II - Must possess both a Grade I Water Treatment Operator (T1) and Grade II Water Distribution Operator (D2) Certification. Must possess a valid California Driver License and have a clean driving record.
Work experience in a water utility; familiarity with streets in the Scotts Valley area; experience with computerized monitoring and operation systems.
Willingness and ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

All offers of employment are contingent on proof of a good driving record and successful completion of a District paid physical. Water Facilities Operator I $27.04 - $34.06 hourly
Water Facilities Operator II $30.17 - $38.91 hourly
This classification is represented by the District’s Employee Union, AFSCME Local 101 (AFL-CIO) and is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
