This position performs technical engineering, environmental, and surveying duties relating to the design, operation, and maintenance of the stormwater drainage system; assist engineers in development review, including stormwater engineering calculations, and technical reports; conducts construction site and illicit discharge inspections, investigations, and documentation; generates and delivers reports and presentations to Town staff, civic organizations and elected officials; prepares and maintains databases; performs surface water quality sampling; coordinates with the other Divisions regarding the operation and maintenance of the stormwater drainage system; responds to public requests for assistance; and assist the Engineering Services Director in other program aspects. Work includes extensive contact with consultants, contractors, the general public, government agencies, and Town Staff. The employee exercises independent judgment and technical expertise in the application of field inspections, surveying and water quality monitoring. Tact and courtesy are required in frequent contact with property owners, consultants, contractors, the general public and other Town staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Engineering Services Director.
Any combination of education and experience to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in environmental engineering, environment science, or closely related field, and two to five years of experience working with environmental regulations.
Possession of a valid North Carolina Class Driver’s License.
North Carolina Certified BMP Inspector or ability to obtain with one year of employment.
